Dubai (located in the Middle East) is one of the seven states that make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is considered to be the tourism capital of the world and is classified as the fastest growing state. One of the most popular aspects of Dubai is the architecture. One could say that this state is “Architecturally Ambitious”.
Dubai is on the rise, but the majority of their building projects are either still “in the works” or in the early stages of construction. According to industry experts, an estimated 15 - 25% of the world’s cranes are in Dubai. It is fast becoming one of the most advanced states in the world, and is home to some of the largest architectural structures in the world. Some of the most fascinating structures are:
· Hydropolis - the world’s first underwater hotel. This hotel was actually built in Germany and later assembled in Dubai. The hotel has a land station where visitors are greeted, a connecting tunnel which will transport people to the hotel by train, and there are 220 suites within the hotel.
· Palm Islands Resort - manmade islands in the shape of a palm tree that are said to be visible from space. The islands will include over 100 luxury hotels, elite beach side apartments, water parks, restaurants, shopping malls, marinas, sports facilities, and health spas.
· Ski Dubai - the first indoor ski resort in the Middle East. Ski Dubai (open year round) offers real snow where visitors can ski and snowboard. There are experts available to provide ski/snowboarding lessons if needed. In addition, there are a variety of restaurants within the resort.
· Dubai Waterfront - the largest man-made development in the world which includes residences, commercial districts, tourist attractions and leisure amenities. It is estimated to hold a population of 1.5 million.
· Dubai Mall - the largest mall in the world with an astounding 1,200 shops. The Dubai Mall is home to the Dubai Aquarium, Discovery Centre, an underwater zoo, indoor ice rink, and a 22-screen movie cinema.
These are only a few of the amazing structures Dubai has to offer. Dubai is a place beyond imagination, represents the future and I can only hope to visit there one day.

I think Dubai sounds wonderful and I would also love to visit there one day. The Hydropolis really caught my attention, because it sounds amazing. That would be such an incredible experience to be in the first underwater hotel ever made. The indoor skiing also sounds very interesting. I have been skiing a few times and I think that would definitely be an interesting experience to ski indoors and not to mention skiing in Dubai alone would be an experience. I have always read and heard about Dubai being a technologically advance country, but I had no idea how advanced they really were. I am pretty sure that if I visited the Dubai mall that I would spend most of my vacation there. I cannot imagine the biggest mall in the world. I visited Mall of America and was blown away; I truly would love to see the largest mall in the world. I think Dubai sounds like it offers many tourist attractions and I think it would be a fantastic place to have a vacation. I can only hope that one day I could have the opportunity of visiting. Dubai truly does sound like it is beyond the human imagination.
ReplyDeleteI’m glad that my blog caught your attention. Dubai has been a huge interest of mine for awhile now. The Internet is full of amazing information and videos about all that Dubai has to offer. Hydropolis is an amazing structure. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to stay in a place like that. I can only assume how much effort went into planning and building the hotel. I have to admit I’m not the best skier, but that wouldn’t stop me from enjoying the indoor ski resort. The mall seems like it would take days, maybe even weeks, to see the entire place. I wouldn’t complain; that’s for sure!
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how popular Dubai is for tourists. It has so much to offer for everyone. If you are really interested in visiting or learning more I would like to suggest this video from the web. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eUcRjo9Yv4. It’s about “The World”. The World is a group of man-made islands made to embody the world itself. It is a place that investors can actually buy an island (or two) and do what they wish with it. The islands can be used for residential and resort purposes, and many other ways. The islands can be sculpted the way you like. I won’t give all the information away, but The World truly is fascinating. I strongly urge you to check it out!
Chloe, as I read your very interesting blog, I thought of a program I saw in the series "Extreme Engineering." The series features the building of the Palm Island Resort. I saw another program about the building of a remarkable hotel in Dubai, but I can't remember if it was part of the same series. The engineering feats are awe-inspiring.
ReplyDeleteThe world's economic downturn has been affecting Dubai's building boom. Have you read anything about that?
I try to keep up with the new structures and technological advances in Dubai as often as possible. I do remember reading something, or possibly viewing a video regarding the economic downturn. Dubai has slowed down a lot compared to how fast the architecture and plans for Dubai were in the beginning. Regardless of the economic issues around the world, I see great potential in Dubai. They seem extremely motivated and I defintitely don't think they are done with their ideas just yet.
